Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Hilary Watson is an up-and-comer from California. She'll be joining us for worship on July 14, beginning her music in a concert-style performance at 6:30pm (earlier than the usual 7:00pm). At 7:00, Pastor James will share a message for the week, recieve an offering, lift up prayers, and then turn it back over to Miss Watson for the conclusion of her set.

As a special treat this night, we are hoping to have a few young ladies from our area dancing to one of Hilary's songs. Stay tuned for updates on this part of the evening!

Hilary Watson was born and raised in Riverside, California. She bought her very first guitar from a pawnshop for $100 at the age of 11. Fortunately for her family, the electronics didn’t work and she was never able to plug it into an amplifier. All in all, it worked well enough for her to learn her musical alphabets – C thru B (for you muse’s out there).

Fast-forward 6 years to an event in Ventura, California. It was at a Harvest Crusade that she was asked why she had never written a song. In love with the Lord and still strumming away, she embarked on her new passion. Looking back, she is thankful for good friends who would so graciously lend an ear to her poorly tuned guitar and not so well written songs. It was through their encouragement that she would keep writing.

Hilary graduated in 2004 from Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta with an Associates degree in Theology and an even deeper love for her Savior. It was by this time that she was heavily involved in leading worship and convinced that the Lord had called her into music as a ministry. Not knowing the first thing about making a CD, what began in the home studio of a friend and subsequently recorded in a world class studio with amazing musician’s, is now Hilary’s wonderfully crafted and produced debut CD “Passing By”.  In her words, “…it truly was completely the Lord.”

That brings us to today. Paul said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).  Hilary’s life is not about guitars, singing, CDs or anything of the like. Says Hilary, “My life is Christ – in Christ, from Christ and for Christ. My heart is for those who have never heard the gospel.” In serving the Lord through music, Hilary’s prayer is that God would use her for whatever purposes He desires.

Come, girls in 1^st -6^th grade who would like to learn how to dance! We will be learning 2 dances: one for fun and one to perform for our VBS program on August 22 during church.
Practices will be held:

• Sunday, July 18^th (10:15-11-15),
• Wednesday, July 21^st (4:00-5:00),
• Sunday, August 1^st 10:15-11:15),
• Wednesday , August 4^th (4:00-5:00),  and  
• Tuesday, August 17^th (5:00-6:00).

On July 25, Pastor David Hansen will be the worship leader and speaker while Pastor James is on the Servent Event to Vermont with the Good Shepherd Youth:

The Rev. David Hansen spent 20 years in Lutheran congregations as a parish pastor. More recently, God has called him to service on behalf of Food for the Poor, the nation's largest private Aid, Relief and Development organization. He is married to his truly better half, Teri, and together they are in the thick of the parenting years, shepherding Peter (15) and Emma (9) in the ways of the Lord. 

Thanks to Westwood Church of Chanhassen, MN, we will have an opportunity to revisit the miracle that our Lord worked in the life of Bill Dunbar. Representatives of Westwood came out to Good Shepherd recently to videotape our sanctuary and grounds, as part of the story includes prayers of hope and praise - to God Almighty. Easter mattered on April 4...and, it should matter every day as God intervenes in miraculous ways.
